The Story of Cakes by Xanthe

Founded in 2022, Cakes by Xanthe was started as an escape from Grade 12 exam preparation. I started off with baking birthday cakes for my family. My older sister who was planning her wedding for the end of the year decided that she would like me to make her wedding cake for her. I had never tiered a cake before and decided that if I wanted to take on this task for her I should gain some more practice. I began to bake more and more often.

I used every celebration as an excuse to practice, and if there was no particular event coming up any time soon I took the opportunity to donate my cakes and cupcakes to my friends who were more than willing to assist me in the eating.

I had always wanted to start up a business, and after I picked up making cakes just on the side, I had more and more friends and family tell me that I should turn my hobby into one. So I decided to give it a shot.

Throughout the course of the year my work expanded and soon I was receiving cake orders from my extended family, then friends of friends of friends. By August I had already been booked for two other wedding cakes, not including my sister's for whom the whole ordeal began.

My dream is to continue to make more top quality, creative and delicious cakes for every occasion, just as my clients envision. Whether you are looking for something simple or something more elaborate, I hope to work alongside you and bring your ideas to life with a little bit of sugar, butter and maybe even a handful of sprinkles.
